4 Simple Ways To Manage Your Internet Speed

Posted by Olayinka Alawode on

Everybody wants high-speed internet, and if you’ve ever had to wait to buffer while streaming a video, then it is your internet speed that has to be enhanced. The main question is how to speed up your internet connection? Though there are lots of information online and a lot of solutions, but not all of these solutions work.

4 Easy Ways to Speed up Your Internet | Nomad Internet

Some guides are straight-up there and won’t, while others are technical or expensive. Whether you have too many devices on your network or have interfaces from the wireless signals, there could be various reasons why your internet might be slower.

The following are a few ways you can speed up your internet.

1. Consider your data cap

Data caps are one of the biggest culprits of slow internet speeds. ISPs usually don’t advertise their data caps for some obvious reasons, but they can mess with your connection. A data cap means that you can use a fixed amount of data each month, and it could be anything from a couple of hundred megabytes to hundreds of gigabytes.

If you happen to exceed the data limit, the ISP will severely restrict your internet speeds. If you are not aware, there are usage guides, and this varies within ISPs. With Nomad Internet, no more data caps, and no more data overages! All of our plans include high-speed data for normal internet usage such as gaming, movies, streaming music, and surfing the internet. However, downloading illegal content, as well as data abuse, is prohibited. Data abusers are those who use BitTorrenting and go through over 500+GBs a month; the average household uses less than 250 GBs a month. That said, we’ve got reviews from existing customers using up to 800 – 900 GB with no issues.

2. Better to give your router a break

You should reset your router every month and give your device a break and refresh your internet connection. If you are experiencing severe speed issues, then you might consider resetting your router every day still, if you need to do this every day you need to reach out to your ISP’s support for evaluation and provide a solution.

Also, you can plug your router into a timer that can turn the system on and off for you. You can set it to restart the system every night while you are in bed. This way, you can be able to wake up to that fresh internet feeling every day.

3. Install a wireless/malware scanner

It is recommended that you install an antivirus and malware scanning software. It is quite evident that any virus or malware that is lurking on your computer might put a significant drag on the speed of your internet.

Once you have some good software on board, then you can set it to scan for viruses and malware automatically regularly. If the software happens to find existing viruses and malware, then it is better to get it removed by a computer technician.

4. Negotiate with your internet service provider

Even if there is only one Internet Service Provider (ISP) in your town, it must have multiple plans. If you are not satisfied with your internet speed, your internet provider might offer you a higher speed plan that would serve you better.

You can call your provider and ask about the alternative plans, or you can do some research online to find out what the other users are paying for similar plans. You might also be able to find deals online that the company might not tell you about over the phone.

There is no doubt that slow internet speeds can feel physically painful, especially if you have to deal with a slow internet connection and high priorities daily. There are ways to up your internet speed without wading through overly technical server details, and you can be back to uninterrupted binging in no time.

Do you offer 5Ghz routers? I’m trying to play Amazon Luna and it’s really choppy.

Using a Parsec Husky 7 in 1 and PepWave Transit Pro Duo I get HORRIBLE internet speeds from this Nomad Plan. I am talking about less than 1MBPS Up and down speeds. So far, not real happy with Nomad.

Hey Lloyd, we’re sorry to hear that speeds are giving you some trouble! There are a lot of things that can affect speeds, such as: proximity to the nearest tower, geographical barriers such as trees or hills breaking up the service line, congestion in the area, etc. Nomad does not guarantee speeds due to the many things that can affect the service but we’d be happy to see if we can find a better solution or plan for your needs! Ask for Mike or Joseph in our live chat to help you out!

My internet speeds dropped from 60-70 mbps to 15-20 kbps and I can’t seem to get it to pick back up no matter what I try.

Hey Brian! We’re so sorry that the service seems to have faltered. While the service is expected to fluctuate some, due to the active nature of the cellular service that provides the connection, we’d love to help! If you haven’t already would you mind emailing [email protected] and we can reset that line or offer you a free replacement no problem! We’ll get you back up and running as expected :)

I am waiting on a Wi-Fi router that I was told would be sent to me so I can connect my repeater/extender. My current on doesn’t have a WAP button on it.
